Alligator Safety Reminder
Alligators are native to Florida and may be present in any pond, lake, canal, or wetland within our community.Residents and visitors are reminded to use caution whenever they are near the water.
Please help keep our community safe by following these important guidelines:
- Stay at least 30 feet away from any alligator.
- Never feed or attempt to approach an alligator. Feeding alligators is illegal in Florida and causes them to lose their natural fear of people.
- Keep pets on a leash and away from the water's edge. Small pets can resemble natural prey.
- Supervise children closely whenever they are near ponds, lakes, or other bodies of water.
- Avoid swimming or wading in community ponds and retention areas.
- Be especially cautious at dawn, dusk, and nighttime, when alligators are most active.
If you observe an alligator that appears aggressive, has lost its fear of people, or poses a threat to residents or pets, please contact the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866-FWC-GATOR (866-392-4286).
By remaining alert and respecting wildlife, we can safely coexist with Florida's native alligators. Thank you for helping keep our community safe.
